Hi Yan,

Saw your argument, I can't say I disagree with the background reason for your action (I don't read Conrad for this, and I even have to close my browser rather precipitously at times when I happen to look at his blog when taking a break in the office). However, you must acknowledge the fact that 'the Gweilo Diaries' (I don't know the other one) is much more than its pictures. There are worthy news with broad debate (and that comes from someone maybe the exact political opposite from Conrad), and often pretty fun too.

You may want to discuss this directly with the relevant bloggers directly (you could convince them to post the pictures in a separate page for instance) without imposing this censorship. Your other posts on democracy in Hong Kong would be one reason why you should do this.

I don't appreciate the pics myself, so I don't look, but I don't avoid the rest of the blog, because that's what I want to read. Please, your action reminds me of some countries in South East Asia, where in the name of morals one forbids plurality.

roddy

Fair decision, I think. I've been a lot more careful about what links I click on LiC for just this reason, after a similar office-blushing moment like that described above. I shall look forward to clicking your links when I should be working.

Taking down the links to linkers is perhaps more than most people who have done, but it's your blog and your choice.

Roddy

Yan

No interest in percipitating debate. I think others have tried but failed. Conrad in particular, the other people have their own brand of decision making processes that is different from mine. Fine. Cool. Whatever floats your boat. It's their blogs after all. They do what they want. I don't like it, I don't click.

Where is the censorship? Where in this post do I say they can't do it? They are welcome to. The internet is a free space. I also have every right to remove the links *I* want. This is MY blog. I asked Conrad to remove me, he did. The other didn't. Fine. What am I supposed to link to every stupid blog I don't read? in the name of plurality? Am I supposed to support people whose politics I don't relate to? Notice no right wing blogs linked? Notice no Nazi sites linked? Well, maybe some people who read this blog also read those blogs, but generally they DON'T.

Accusing me off "Censorship" is sorta silly. Censorship denotes POWER. It is implicit saying that I have some sort of right over there actions. I don't. Calling me a puritain and not allowing pluraity is a joke. I am not here to love those who I don't like and support those who support things I don't agree with. What you just said is far more in line with that line of thinking. i.e. NOT respecting my decisions in MY space.

Yan

Yan

Anyway, just like in life. I don't hang with over 40 cheek touchers and their friends, my friends don't go into bars or other places they frequent. I am sure they all have very interesting political and wide ranging topics for discussion. But WHY? there are lots of other people in this universe who is interesting and wide ranging that I feel comfortable with. :)

Alexandre

Yes it's your choice, but don't call all the people you have removed 'cheek touchers', that's insulting and a gross generalisation (not a proof of openness).

Yan

None of the people I removed at cheek touchers!! Where did you get that??

Ah! The heading! Cool. I am gonna change it.

Yan

Yan

Done.. Why didn't you say so earlier??

Yan

pketh

I can see what your saying and honestly I didn't really put as much thought into it, but then I'm not as affected by the situation. fwi, I have recently deleted conrad from my bloglinks - the reason was because I just stopped reading (I'm not really into hard-core politics as much as i used to be) and I wanted to keep my links trim. Others are gone now too, and while I don't have nearly as long a link list as you I still feel the need the need to keep everything prim and proper.

I see that I'm not linked anymore :( , but you have a good point and I'll still keep reading :) Keep up the good work

Yan

Of all the blogs I deleted. Yours pained me the MOST. Truly. But you're back in now. :)

ex-visitor

Jeez.

Promoting criminal speed-racers is 'cool' but looking at hot women is out-of-order.

get a fricken life.

Dcreeper

enjoying beauty = degrading women

I just don't get the connection

pketh

got your email too Yan, flattered to see I'm back and if that's not blog motivation to do better I'm not sure what is :)

I need some new links to make up for the 2 or so I got rid of during my 'winter cleaning'. I think your newly revised link list may be a good place to start ;)

keep fighting the good fight!

A N N A

there's a way to respectfully enjoy beauty WITHOUT degrading women. i don't think that she was in any way implying that the two were identical.

and ex-visitor? yan's blog is HER world. she gets to promote whatever the bloody hell she pleases. you get to disagree. now *i* get to tell YOU to get a "fricken" life. spank you, drive through.

We support your stand against this cheap paedophilia on Gweilo Diaries. Well done.

"Cheek touchers"?

Mike

Good call indeed Yan,these guys really need to get a life!

chris

I think your jealous of us foreigners getting the best of your women. You want to know why we do? We dont treat them like shit. Thats right you get any chinese woman to tell a foreigner what she thinks of Chinese men and your told that they are uncaring, rude, selfish and sexually underperforming. Now I'm sure there are many many chinese "men" who are not like this but it seems the majority are. You can make petty insecure insults against us foreigners all you want but the fact is your just jealous that we get the best looking women and we have the ability to keep them. Go back to your copy of Playboyand box of kleenex.

Nevin

I feel frustrated as you do when once trapped to half finish Conrad's lusty accounts of his affairs with a married Japanese woman + an underage Thai or whatever national she was and regularly his seemingly Japanese girl semi-nude photos. Bravo! My hat off to you. They definitely deserve a removal.

Giles

Err Chris, Glutter is a woman! No hard feelings for removing my blog like all the other majority of HK Blogs, I didn't get many hits anyway!

Yan

Everyone else. Cool.

Chris.

You get it wrong the best of "our" women (like myself) think guys like you, ie. Not foreigners, as not all are that way. Just cheap ass ones like you who are rude, selfish, and has a huge ego and can't read properly or engage in a conversation without falling into insults. Just kinda.. well GROSS.

Lates.

Yan

Erika

Hmmmm I have to respond to Chris here, when he says that Chinese men (according to 'any Chinese woman') are 'uncaring, rude, selfish and sexually underperforming'... Funny, that. That's exactly how I felt when I was dating white men like you!

Chris, ask any woman in any culture from any race and she'll tell you that 99% of the men she deals with are total cocks. For those of us who are lucky enough to find a genuine, loving individual, culture and skin color is really just incidental.

Yan

Erika, this man doesn't TALK to women. Don't ask him to ASK them anything. If he does ask he's too busy talking about himself to listen. You can tell he was so busy wanting to sprout his shit he didn't spend even enough time to read carefully enough to realize I wasn't a guy. Please!

Although I agree. Read my bad chat ups. More coming soon.

There were Chinese guys from HK, white-american guys, black-american guys, a British born Chinese guys, an english guy, a guy from New Zealand, all races, cultures and countries. Boring guys who aren't always nice crosses all cultures and boundaries and ages. Close minded fools who like to disrespect people come in all shapes, sizes, shades and passports!!

Yan

tom

Yan, you're right on! I think I've observed a cheek-toucher in action.

I was in Japan about six months ago and saw no less than fifteen "odd" pairings: old white men courting young Asian women. I remember overhearing a conversation between a couple in a busy market. It went something like this:

Dirty old white guy: "You're beautiful." [Long dramatic pause, staring uncomfortably into the young Japanese girl's face]
Girl: Thank yew... [Looking away from dirty's gaze, appearing very uncomfortable]
Dirty: "Are you happy?" [Eyes still locked onto the girl's turned away face]
Girl: what? [Looking back at him every few moments, apparently not fluent in English]
Dirty: "Are you happy to be here?" [Sounding extremely awkward]
Girl: I think so..." [Awkwardly]
Dirty: [silence, but still staring "lovingly" ...]

The old guy's face was inches from hers, and his intonation was as if he were trying to speak seductively. Maybe to him he was romantic, but to everyone else, he was just a pathetic dirty old white schmuck.

These guys turn my stomach. They ought to grow a pair, show some integrity, and crawl back under the decaying logs from whence they came.

Tre

Have to say nuff respect to Ms Glutter for taking a stand against the, well, paedo pervs, 'cause thats what they are. Fortunately I don't believe they are wholly representative of the western males in HK (of whom I am one) but they are a significant minority, and quite frankly an embarrassment.

Sadly its an all too common sight in HK - Bloated, unnattractive 30 and 40 somethings such as Conrad, been in HK a few years, strutting around with a tiny filipina on their arm as if they are some kind of stud, boasting of bedding indonesian domestic helpers as if its some fantastic achievement akin to porking a Miss World, or drooling over Japanese women dressed up to look like pre-pubescent schoolgirls.

Its just plain sad. I however derive a great deal of satisfaction when I actually see pictures of these guys - Either fat, bald or ugly - In Conrad's case, probably all three. He loves to post pictures, but never of himself. Why, I wonder.

"Chris" who posted on Jan 20 is a pretty good example of the western male superiority complex that is so visible here. All the usual slurs and cliches are dragged up. But this is a guy who thinks that staggering out of Fenwicks at 4am with a "flipper" or "little brown fucking machine" (the phrases their ilk use, not me) on his arm is proof that asian females find western males "irresistable". How very sad.

Worst of all, these are guys who get so insecure when a western female dares to date outside her race (god forbid she even dare to date an asian male). Hypocrites one and all.
